St Lucia Weddings - Marigot Bay Beach Resort - Lovely quiet resort
We
stayed here for a week in August. This is off peak season so it wasn't
busy. After the bed breaking in our original room on day of arrival, we
were upgraded to a villa higher up in the hills. Views were amazing.
This is a very pretty resort and you can see all the massive mansions
across the bay in the hills.
The villa we had was spacious with a kitchen. The only downside to this was mosquitoes as the villa is open, except for the bedroom so we got bitten a lot! We eventually bought spray for the space. There is a little tram that takes you to the higher villas so that you don't get too tired walking up. This helped a lot.
Doolittles Restaurant is very pretty and we are there some of the time. Staff were lovely, especially the bar staff. The waiting staff was a bit mixed as some were not very skilled at their job, taking plates away before we were done etc. I also ordered yam chips one evening and was brought sweet potato fries. When I asked the waitress about this, she assured me it was yam! Crazy, as I'm very familiar with both foods. Food is not cheap so choose wisely.
We loved the mini ferry across the bay
to the hotel. Such a special touch! Marigot Bay is quite isolated so if
you want to be able to get around more you'd need a car rental. Taxis
are very expensive and the bus service around there is not great as you
need to walk up the steep hill.
Beach at the hotel is ok. Not very private as you have some locals enjoying it as well and trying to sell you trips.
We did the scuba Dive with Dive Fair Helen which is onsite. It was fantastic. Vanessa at the shop was so helpful and friendly. And Andre the Dive instructor was so professional and knowledgeable and encouraging. I would definitely want to go with him again. A highlight of our trip.
Taxi to Castries is $30 one way. Water taxis are much more expensive.
We also engaged the services of a local photographer to take some tenth anniversary photos of us (St Lucia Wedding Photographer Bill Mortley) - He was fantastic and we couldn't be more pleased with our photos.
Overall, St Lucia is lovely. Great landscape. Roads can be very hilly and windy. We saw Soufriere (diamond falls and gardens, sulphur springs and the volcano), Castries, Vigie beach (water is lovely and calm), Anse La Raye, Anse Couchon (diving a the coral reef is so pretty), Gros Islet, Dennery and even saw the West Indies University. The Fish Fri at Anse La Raye has not had a good reputation recently and nothing much was happening there when we went so we did the one in Gros Islet, which was very lively.
We had a lovely time at Marigot Bay and would love to return one day.
I have to mention the security at the hotel. One of them was extremely helpful in getting us mosquito repellent on our second day when the store across the bay was closed for the day so thank you.
